Chapter 198 Newbie Bounty Hunter
First, they found them strange and dangerous, having been through of mere myths. But soon enough, as the number of players increases and they become common, the NPCs would find them as normal as cabbages. In fact, they would learn about the advantages of the players too.
Any dangerous mission that could threaten the finite life of an NPC would preferably be given to a player who was an adventurer. Not just that, but the various gods and deities would also actively start showing their influence and affirming the position of the players.
Once the players got the approval of the various deities, it was the same as normalizing them for the NPCs forever.
"That\'s about all I know." The staff member finished speaking.
"Hmm… it\'s certainly accurate, I suppose." Arthur replied.
"Really?" The staff member was surprised. "I didn\'t expect the Otherworlders to admit that so easily."
"Most of us will be more than eager to talk. So I don\'t think you all will have issues in communication." Arthur stated. "Though there can be a few troublemakers… some really problematic ones that will seem crazy. Those are the ones you will have to watch out for." He advised.
"Is that so? I\'ll keep that in mind and also inform the others." The staff member said with a firm expression.
"And don\'t feel hesitant about using force against them. Some of them don\'t learn otherwise." Arthur said, while chuckling. "You all can be harsher with them. It\'s not like we can die anyways."
"Thank you for your advice." The Staff member noted everything in his mind. "I\'ll also inform you if there are any new bounties there."
"Sure," Arthur said before a notification was heard.
>Player Arzhur has obtained an achievement!<
~DING~
——
<Achievement: Newbie Bounty Hunter!>
Info: Obtained when a player has cleared 5 bounties in a settlement.
Effect: The player\'s reputation as a Bounty Hunter will rise.
——
\'Oh, I almost forgot you can get this one too.\' Arthur looked at the notification window.
It was one of the standard achievements that nearly every player would obtain. It was also in a series of growing achievements and the players could obtain more as they continued to hunt bounties.
\'The numbers needed to grow the achievement increase rapidly though. It\'s only 5 for the first one, 50 for the next, then 100, then 500 and then it jumps to 1000… Only two people actually had the fifth achievement in this series.\' Arther recalled that he was stuck between the 100 and 500 bounty marks.
The gap between 100 and 500 was rather massive and as such only players who had exclusively been hunting bounties would be able to obtain it.
After all, it wasn\'t just a matter of skill either, but also luck. Players needed to be lucky enough to have a bounty available for them to hunt. With the number of players that would populate the game, getting a bounty would get harder.
Though there were a few repeatable bounties such as bandit and beast subjugations that became the bread and butter of the players. They would farm these bounties as they could not only be repeated but also be taken on by multiple players at once.
It was such a common achievement though, that Arthur didn\'t even know who actually obtained it for the first time.
\'Not like it matters, anyway. It gives the same effect for all.\' Arthur thought.
The bounty achievements worked like another reputation system but were only specific for bounties. Unlike the settlement or region specific reputation. It did have its benefits though, as it allowed players to obtain higher ranked bounties as well as better rewards later on.
Plus, depending on one\'s achievement level, NPCs might even offer them more information than others.
It gave one a passive advantage, thus there was no disadvantage to having it.
Done with all this, Arthur left the building and went to the Adventurer\'s guild nearby. He had been asked to go there by the guild master anyways and Arthur also wanted to take a look at the players.
\'Rain might have arrived as well.\' Arthur guessed. \'And if there is anywhere he would be, it is most certainly the guild.\' He reckoned.
Rain wasn\'t a reckless player and was rather calculative. He would spend time learning about the game along with relying on his instincts. That is also how he had become one of the top ranked players in not just Morpheus Online but also several other games.
Though this also made Artur think of another thing.
\'If I do manage to find him, I can perhaps still talk to him through a disguise.\' Arthur pondered whether it would be a viable and safe option. "No new messages from him either," he checked, just in case.
Since Rain had given no further update, Arthur was free to do as pleased for now.
A few minutes later, he was at the Adventurer\'s guild which was bustling with players.
~WHISTLE~
"Now that\'s a lot of them. Looks like all of them swarmed here. That\'s why I didn\'t see as many scattered in the town." Arthur muttered upon seeing the clueless players.
He did a rough check with Dragon\'s Insight too, wondering if there was anyone above level 10.
\'Still no one. Looks like Val really had luck on her side.\'
The players looked at Arthur and found him to be different from them. Arthur\'s behavior was similar to that of the experienced NPC adventurers and as such, the players didn\'t dare to approach him. A few daring ones had already used Inspect and had failed to check him.
It confirmed their doubts that he was an NPC too and it made them quickly lose their interest.
After all, Arthur wasn\'t the only one in a flashy armor. There were several more NPC adventurers of similar quality or even better armorers. Though right now it was looking like the players were outnumbering the NPCs.
