Chapter 36 - 36: 036 Goblin Forest
When the four Law Enforcers came for him, Dean McKenzie’s mind was racing with various thoughts.
He had already considered the identities of these four.
Were they Anthony’s men? Or from the Fallen Professionals?
Or perhaps they were connected to the woman who had a grudge against Anthony, someone he had only met once before?
But none of these assumptions were correct!
They were simply Law Enforcers from South Hill Base.
And the reason they sought Dean McKenzie was beyond his wildest expectations!
“What did you say? Xander Xavier has disappeared? How is that possible? He was just here not long ago buying an equipment from me. How could he just vanish?’1
Upon hearing the reason why the Law Enforcers were looking for him, Dean McKenzie was genuinely shocked.
“Based on the information we’ve gathered, he has indeed disappeared.
Just two or three hours ago!”
“Two or three hours ago? That’s just after he left here, isn’t it?”
“Yes, that’s why we asked for your cooperation in this investigation.”
“Wait a minute, you’re telling me you’re sure he has disappeared after just two or three hours?
Perhaps he’s went somewhere and can’t be reached at the moment…”
“Well, we are quite sure about this, otherwise we wouldn’t have asked for your cooperation.
Now, could you please tell us about the process of him buying things at your stall!”
The Law Enforcers merely asked Dean McKenzie to come in for questioning.
About half an hour later, after he had finished giving his statement, he was allowed to leave.
But even though Dean McKenzie was let out by the Law Enforcers, he didn’t look well at all.
On one hand, he still couldn’t believe that Xander Xavier had simply vanished within South Hill Base.
On the other hand, he had heard something distressing about Xander Xavier’s disappearance from the Law Enforcers.
They suggested that Xander’s disappearance might be related to the Fallen Professionals.
The reason they might be interested in Xander, was very likely because he had unlocked his Talent.
Yes, Xander unlocked his Talent.
Right here at his stall, when he tried out the “Rotten Poison Arrow Bag”.
The Law Enforcers were pretty certain about this because Xander contacted his mentor as soon as he left Dean’s stall after the Talent unlocking occurred.
It was also his mentor who reported Xander’s disappearance to the Law Enforcers.
Most likely, Xander had exposed his Talent while on his way to inform his mentor and was then targeted and captured by the Fallen Professionals.
“Why would the Fallen Professionals want to capture Xander?”
Dean McKenzie asked one of the professionals who had brought him in.
The other party was quite straightforward and replied while scratching his head, “Well, I heard that the Fallen Professionals have a way of plundering the Talents of other professionals.
Also, they seem to prefer using Talented professionals for their potion brewing, but as for the exact circumstances, nobody really knows!
Alright, thanks for your cooperation. Don’t leave South Hill Base for the next few days, and if you recall any additional details, please don’t hesitate to contact me!”
The Law Enforcer left after escorting Dean McKenzie to the door, leaving Dean standing there breaking out in a cold sweat.
This was the first time he realized how incredibly dangerous and horrifying it could be if his Talent were to be exposed.
Anthony might not even be able to protect him. Today’s fate of Xander could very well be his tomorrow.
At that moment, he made a silent vow to himself that he would never expose his Talent to anyone, no matter what.
Meanwhile, the matter with Xander further unsettled Dean’s already restless heart.
He couldn’t afford to waste even a single moment.
“I must become stronger, as quickly as possible!”
With that, Dean rushed into the trading area. After purchasing a large amount of supplies, he set off for District 5.
District 5 of South Hill Base was composed of four maps.
The first was the Slime Plains, with monster levels ranging from level 1 to 5.
The second was Skeleton Cave, which Dean had visited before, with monster levels ranging from level 5 to 10.
The third was the Goblin Forest, with monster levels ranging from level 10 to
15-
The third is Mermaid Lake, where the monsters are level 15 to 20.
Four maps, completely covering the monster grinding needs from levels 1 to 20.
Now, Dean McKenzie was heading straight for the Goblin Forest.
At the “Secret Realm Gate” in District 5, after a sensation of weightlessness, Dean arrived at the Goblin Forest.
This map area is somewhat larger than Skeleton Cave, around two to three hundred square kilometres.
The environment was also much better.
Unlike the Skeleton Cave, which is dark, damp and you could hardly see your hands.
A major advantage of Goblin Forest over Skeleton Cave was that there were hardly anyone here.
The newcomers at South Hill Base were admitted once a year.
Typically, within about half a year, the newcomers could grind their way up to level 20.
After all, the difficulty of leveling up to the first 20 levels in this world is not too high, it’s only when it’s time to change professions at level 20 that it becomes a major barrier.
This barrier shakes off at least fifty percent of people.
Of course, this barrier or no barrier didn’t matter much to Dean at the moment.
The main point was, this year’s batch of newcomers at South Hill Base had just arrived less than a month ago.
Less than a month’s time, most of the newcomers were still under level 10, still competing for monsters in the Slime Plains and the Skeleton Cave, or getting up close and personal with hairy rats outside of the base under the guidance of base instructors.
There were hardly anyone in Goblin Forest.
Dean no longer encountered the same embarrassing situation as when he was in the Skeleton Cave, unable to find any monsters after looking around for ages.
On the contrary, because hardly any people came to grind, there was a bit of an infestation of monsters in the Goblin Forest.
Dean just arrived at the Goblin Forest and a dozen green figures howled and surrounded him.
Dean swept his gaze around and began quietly chanting, the Appraisal Skill was used and the attributes of the dozen or so figures appeared before him.
Name: Forest Goblin (Ordinary)
Level: Level 10
Attributes:
Strength: 3, Agility: 3, Physique: 3
Attack: 3 (3)
Defense: 1.5 (2)
Skill: Goblin Throw (Level 1)
Equipment: Goblin Burlap Clothes, Goblin Crude Throwing Spear
Name : Vicious Goblin Boss (Elite)
Level: Level 13
Attributes:
Strength: 9, Agility: 3, Physique: 5
Attack: 9 (5)
Defense: 2.5 (5)
Skill: Ferocious Strike (Level 1)
Equipment: Goblin Leather Armor, Goblin Wolf Tooth Club
With a quick glance, Dean saw the difference between goblins and other monsters like Skeleton Corpses.
In terms of attributes, the difference wasn’t significant, but the goblins could use equipment.
The originally not-so-strong goblins immediately looked savage after putting on the equipment.
Moreover, the goblins seemed to have a certain level of intelligence and understood the concept of bullying the weak with numbers.
Upon spotting Dean, they immediately surrounded him to beat him up.
“Bullying the weak with greater numbers, is it? Then let’s see who’s got more people!”
Dean gave a wide grin, raising his arm, a colossal Gate of Bones appeared before his eyes, and Doggy Two led a rush of dozens upon hundreds of skeletons out.
This made the charging goblins halt instantly and without a word, they all turned around and ran away.
This scaredy-cat behaviour left Dean gaping in confusion…
