Chapter 96
Chapter 96
After Jun Zishu returned to her new employee dormitory, she took a comfortable shower and threw herself onto the bed.
Fiddling around, she found that her new room had many new functions. Compared to before, the treatment she received now was significantly better.
At this time, she received an email titled “Mission Evaluation.”
Her mission this time was graded “A,” which meant she didn’t clear it perfectly.
However, Jun Zishu didn’t think much of it. She felt that she had already done her best.
The Professional Break-up Division’s missions were simply ridiculous. In her opinion, anyone capable of acquiring an S-rank evaluation in that crazy division must be someone incredibly capable of manipulating people’s emotions and have a few screws loose in their head.
Jun Zishu also saw that her bank card had gained an extra 400,000 EP. The value of the Department of Transmigration’s currency was worth roughly 1.2 times as much as the currency she used in her original world (yuan), so it was more than enough for her to live comfortably for a few months. (~75k USD)
Finding a delivery option on the wall menu, Jun Zishu ordered herself a meal and a cup of hot milk.
A minute later, a robot delivered the food she ordered to her doorsteps. At the same time, the corresponding amount of EPs was also deducted from her account.
Everything was high-tech, and Jun Zishu liked her new benefits very much.
After finishing her meal, Jun Zishu opened the World Mall and started doing some online shopping. The World Mall contained everything one could imagine and more, ranging from items from ancient eras to items from galactic eras.
Jun Zishu filtered through the wide variety of items and bought herself a bunch of books.
After concluding her shopping, she turned on the simulated window and set it to rain outside.
While listening to the sound of the rain, Jun Zishu fell asleep and dreamed of a long-forgotten scene.
…
It was a sunny day in spring. The flowers in the garden had bloomed, and beautiful butterflies could be seen fluttering in it.
“Others will only like you if you can benefit them.”
“But…”
Little Jun Zishu frowned, her eyes looking at her mother disapprovingly.
“Do not question my words. You will be discarded if you lose your value one day,” her mother said, a smile on her face as she patted her head.
“Will you discard me as well, Mommy?”
“Mhm, that’s right, so you must work hard to become a useful child.”
“Okay, I will work hard.”
…
I will work hard.
Suddenly, the garden disappeared, the sun disappeared, and even her mother disappeared.
Then, the faces of different people appeared in front of her one after another. Despite wearing different faces, every one of these people wore similar expressions.
“I like you, Jun Zishu.”
“Can you be my girlfriend, Senior Sister?”
“I like you.”
Their voices were different, but the words they said were similar.
Jun Zishu raised her hand and waved those voices away.
…
“What is love, Mommy?”
“Something superficial that will only exist for a short time.”
“Do I need to learn it?”
“No. It’s best if you don’t know that kind of thing.”
…
Jun Zishu suddenly opened her eyes and sat up.
The rain was still ongoing outside, the rhythmic sound it produced soothing Jun Zishu’s rapidly beating heart.
After growing up, Jun Zishu realized that not everything her mother said was correct.
However, even when she tried to treat others with sincerity, she failed to understand the concept of love.
Fortunately, she had never desired the affection of others.
Subsequently, Jun Zishu turned off the rain simulation and started reading one of the books she bought. She immersed herself in reading for many days, only returning to work after her mind and body were free from the stress she had accumulated in the previous mission.
…
In the transit space, Little Fairy greeted Jun Zishu with a happy smile on her face.
“What’s wrong? Did something joyful happen?”
“I sent feedback to the division chief. The division chief says that we can return to our division for the next mission.”
“Mhm, okay.”
Jun Zishu was honestly a little moved by this news.
“Let’s go then, Host.”
“Okay.”
…
When Jun Zishu opened her eyes again, she felt the lower half of her body wobbling slightly. There was a piece of red cloth covering her face, preventing her from looking at her surroundings. However, she could hear the sounds of gongs and drums playing, the music they played sounding festive.
It didn’t take her very long to figure out what kind of situation she was in.
Though, it didn’t seem to be a sincerely celebrated marriage as Jun Zishu could also hear snippets of gossiping carrying hints of ridicule.
…
At the Luo Manor’s entrance, a red carpet was spread from the entrance of the sedan chair to the manor’s front hall. Festive red lanterns were also hung high along the sides of the red carpet.
“May the bride exit the sedan,” the matchmaker shouted, attracting everyone’s attention to the sedan chair.
Jun Zishu lifted the curtains and walked out of the sedan chair.
It was customary for the bride to have her face covered, so everyone naturally couldn’t get a look at Jun Zishu’s face.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. I wonder what has gotten into the Luo family’s second young miss? What is she doing marrying a girl? How laughable.”
“I heard the bride is not only ugly but also an idiot.”
“The Luo family’s second young miss is truly pitiful. Even though she is beautiful like a fairy, she has a terribly unlucky life.”
“I heard she won’t live past 25?”
The bystanders’ voices carried undisguised sarcasm when they spoke about the Luo family’s second young miss.
The Luo family was the wealthiest household in Yunshui Town. Meanwhile, the Luo family’s second young miss was someone everyone praised as talented and beautiful. Unfortunately, because of her frail body, she would rarely appear in front of others.
Meanwhile, to counteract her bad luck, the Luo family’s second young miss was actually marrying a girl today. While marriage between two men was still somewhat acceptable and could be regarded as romantic, marriage between two women was simply unheard of.
Not to mention, the bride was even mentally challenged.
Among those here to observe the marriage, most were here just to enjoy the show.
As for the invited guests, the blessings they offered were filled with veiled derision.
Jun Zishu didn’t have time to inherit her memories before she was asked to leave the sedan chair, so she could only rely on the words she overheard to judge the situation.
A layer of reeds was spread across the steps of the elevated entrance. Jun Zishu stepped on the reeds as she walked up the stairs.
There was a brazier set up in front of the door, and Jun Zishu made sure to be careful as she stepped over it.
The veil covering her face prevented her from seeing clearly what was in front of her, so Jun Zishu walked based on Little Fairy’s guidance.
Someone was standing by the front hall’s entrance when Jun Zishu arrived. Although this person was dressed in a bright red wedding dress, there was neither joy nor sadness on her face.
“First bow to the sky and earth.”
“Second bow to the parents.”
“Third bow to each other.”
When Jun Zishu lowered her head, she noticed a medicinal scent coming from her new “husband.” Although the scent was fragrant, the aura of sickness that came with it was chilling.
“End of ceremony.”
“Send the bride to the bridal chamber.”
…
After taking a seat in the bridal chamber, Jun Zishu finally had the time to inherit her new body’s memories and process the mission details.
Her job this time was to change the fate of a person. Specifically, she needed to change the fate of her new “husband,” Luo Minghuan.
The Luo family might seem peaceful on the surface, but a disgusting stench lingered underneath that surface. While the Luo family’s wealth had allowed those staying in the Luo Manor to live prosperous lives, this same wealth had placed shackles onto many people, including Luo Minghuan.
Luo Minghuan knew about many things. She had also been plotting her revenge for many years. By now, her mind had already gone a little crazy from all the silent plotting.
Eventually, Luo Minghuan would singlehandedly destroy the entire Luo Manor, staining her hands with the blood of 230 people. Then, she would drown the manor in flames and bury herself with it.
Rather than changing Luo Minghuan’s fate, it’d be more apt to describe Jun Zishu’s mission as bringing salvation to Luo Minghuan.
Jun Zishu needed to pull Luo Minghuan out of the dark swamp and bring light into the girl’s life.
Meanwhile, Jun Zishu’s identity this time was set as Luo Minghuan’s distant cousin.
Luo Minghuan had been frail since young. A taoist had even prophesied that she wouldn’t live past 25 years of age.
Anxiety filled Luo Minghuan’s mother when she heard the prophecy, and she pleaded desperately for the taoist to help her daughter. Pestered to no end, the taoist gave a solution to the madame—to wed her daughter at the age of 18 to a relative born at a certain time, regardless of whether the other party was male or female.
After searching for many years, the Luo family only managed to find one relative who fit the bill. Moreover, this relative was a girl and an idiot.
Even so, the Luo family still decided to bring this person into the family.
The original owner of Jun Zishu’s current body was indeed mentally immature. However, the original owner wasn’t an idiot. She was simply a little dull in the head. It was just that her bullies kept calling her an idiot. Then, as time went on, everyone also started to think that she was an idiot who could go crazy at any moment.
The original owner had two younger brothers. Even though her family lived a frugal life, her parents never chose to abandon her. The only reason they accepted the Luo family’s marriage proposal was because they heard that the other party was also a girl. Adding on to the fact that their family was truly having a hard time surviving, they eventually decided to let the original owner wed into the Luo family.
Unfortunately, the original owner’s parents had made a misjudgment as the original owner would be found dead in a well three days later.
Of course, it wasn’t suicide, but homicide instead.
Jun Zishu licked her dry lips as she looked through her mission details. The person the attackers were trying to deal with naturally wasn’t the original owner but Luo Minghuan instead. The original owner was nothing but a pitiful cannon fodder.
Amidst her musings, Jun Zishu heard the sound of the doors being opened, followed by a series of coughs. Just listening to the harsh coughs made Jun Zishu wince.
Her veil getting removed, Jun Zishu finally got to see what her new “husband” looked like.
The woman in front of Jun Zishu could be described as sickly white and beautiful. The woman’s skin was so pale that it didn’t seem like it belonged to a living person. Moreover, even the color of her lips was very light.
Despite wearing a red wedding dress, the woman’s sickly appearance created an unpleasant contrast.
Jun Zishu spotted a tinge of melancholy looking into the woman’s eyes, this discovery inexplicably distressing her heart slightly. However, the melancholy in the woman’s eyes disappeared the next moment, replaced by an icy and aloof feeling.
Jun Zishu stood up from the bed and straightened her dress, an unhappy expression appearing on her face. Then, she walked to the round table nearby, poured a cup of tea, and handed it to Luo Minghuan.
“Here. You should drink water if you’re feeling ill.”
Jun Zishu’s voice was soft, and her expression was a little dull. Yet, her eyes were clean and carried innocence and immaturity that did not match her age.
However, Luo Minghuan did not move, simply scrutinizing the person in front of her with a thoughtful look.
“Quickly drink it?” Jun Zishu moved the cup a little further forward, a confused expression on her face.
“Thank you.”
Luo Minghuan accepted the cup with her thin and pale fingers. Then, she took a few sips of the tea, her lips looking a lot better after being moisturized.
“You’re welcome. I’ve married you already, so we are a family now,” Jun Zishu said in a cheerful tone as she took back the cup and put it on the table.
“Do you know what it means to get married?” Luo Minghuan asked, a faint smile appearing on her face as she looked at the round and pretty face before her.
“I know. My mother told me. Getting married means that you will be my husband and that I will spend the rest of my life with you,” Jun Zishu said as she proudly thumped her chest. The next moment, though, she frowned and continued, “But Erniu told me that when people get married, women will become wives while men will become husbands. But you’re a woman, and I am also a woman. But my mother said that you’re my husband. I… You…”
Jun Zishu bit her lip, a flustered and panicked expression appearing on her face as she looked at Luo Minghuan.
Amused by Jun Zishu’s silly appearance, Luo Minghuan tapped Jun Zishu on the nose and said, “You little dummy.”
“Yuanyuan isn’t a dummy! You’re bad! Mother said Yuanyuan isn’t a dummy! Yuanyuan isn’t dumb! Only bad people will call Yuanyuan a dummy!”
Luo Minghuan watched as the white bundle in front of her babbled continuously, the other party’s expression turning more and more aggrieved as she spoke.
“You’re Yuanyuan’s husband, so you have to protect Yuanyuan. You cannot bully Yuanyuan,” Jun Zishu said as she glared at Luo Minghuan, her appearance looking both cute and pitiful.
Inwardly, Jun Zishu couldn’t help but find the task of pretending to be a coquettish dullard to be somewhat complicated.
…

I will be using simple (and sometimes broken) grammar and vocabulary for Jun Zishu’s speech in this arc to match her role.
